We see design itself as a research-oriented practice. Through typography, visual systems, publishing, and exhibitions, we investigate how graphic design structures meaning, knowledge, and perception. The studio works at the intersection of systems and gestures — between rule-based design and situated, intuitive decisions. Publications, typefaces, exhibitions, and teaching formats serve as both results and research tools.
Typography
Typography is a cultural and epistemic infrastructure — shaping how knowledge is structured, accessed, and perceived. Research focuses on systems, variation, and gesture within typographic form.Â
Systems & Gestures
The relationship between rule-based design systems and situated, intuitive decisions lies at the core of graphic design. Where do systems enable orientation — and where do they need to be bent, interrupted, or reconfigured?
Publishing as Research
Publications are spatial, temporal, and material research formats. Books function not only as carriers of content, but as sites of experimentation and knowledge production. In particular, new technological developments open up possibilities for crossing boundaries between the analog and the digital: a website as a book, and vice versa.
Exhibitions & Spatial Communication
Exhibitions are designed environments in which information, bodies, and space interact. Research focuses on orientation, narrative structures, and the translation of complex content into spatial form.
Design Education & Pedagogy
Design education is a critical practice in itself. Research examines teaching formats, curricula, and pedagogical tools as spaces for reflection, transformation, and disciplinary change.
